In sports-mad Miami, you can telephone for the latest news and scores 24 hours a day, revised every ten minutes. Dial (305) 976-3300.

Motor Racing
The Miami Grand Prix in February attracts the best drivers on the international circuit. The race is run on the six-lane sweep of Biscayne Boulevard and in Bicentennial Park downtown.

Horse Racing
Hialeah Park and Gulfstream, in Broward County, share winter dates on a rotating basis. North Miami’s Calder track opens for the summer season. Established in the 1920s, Hialeah has a thoroughly patrician air. Calder, by contrast, is newer and more functional, but the track can still produce champions.

A recent Kentucky Derby winner, Spend-a- Buck, started out here.

Dog Racing
Dog races are held every evening, in addition to several matinèes a week. Biscayne Kennel Club in Miami Shores and Flagler Dog Track in the city of Miami open in turn.

Fishing
You can fish the bay waters from causeways and bridges where catwalks are provided, or cast your line into the Atlantic from beaches or piers like the popular ones at Haulover Beach Park and Sunny Isles. In Sunny Isles you can find some of the best Hotels in Miami Beach as the Trump International and the super spa Acqualina Resort & Spa.

As for deep-sea fishing, you can charter a private boat or join a group of fishermen on a “party boat” for a reasonable fee per person (rods provided for a small extra charge). For the names of charter companies, private and group, look in the Yellow Pages under “Fishing Parties”. Here in MySobe.com we have boat but not really for fishing.

Other Sports
There are endless possibilities for active participation throughout the year in Miami.

Golf
The municipalities and Dade County Parks and Recreation Department alike maintain a number of popular public courses, including the scenic Key Biscayne voted Florida’s best public course. Certain clubs, like the famous Doral, open heir greens to non-members. Although not every hotel has a course of its own, many can arrange for their guests to play it a private club.

If you are located in some of our Hotels in Miami Beach, we suggest the panoramic Miami Beach Golf Club located in front of the Miami’s Convention Center, just behind the Public Market.

Windsurfing
The most popular spot in town is off Rickenbacker Causeway, between he toll gate and Miami Seaquarium, followed by Dinner Key. Some hotels in south beach and half a dozen specialised dealers rent equipment.

Waterskiing
If your hotel in Miami doesn’t have boats or skiing gear, you can fit yourself out at one of the ski centres along the Rickenbacker and 79th Street causeways. For a real thrill, try jet-skiing around the bay, a really amazing experience.

Surfing
The biggest rollers come in to shore at South Pointe and Haulover Beach.

Boating
Oceanfront hotels in South Beach area, a part those ones in Ocean Drive, generally have a flotilla of catamarans and sunfish sailing boats for hire, while several firms at Dinner Key in Coconut Grove and at the Miami Beach Marina rent sailing boats by the hour, half-day, day and week. If you’ve never sailed before, the protected waters of Biscayne Bay make a good place to learn. Most hire companies advise beginners to complete at least six hours of instruction before going out alone. So, if you are a fans of this sport we suggest to book an Hotel in Coconut. You will be at 40 minutes from South Beach by car.

Motor boats are available at Pelican Harbor Marina on the 79th Street Causeway, Crandon Marina on Key Biscayne and Flamingo Marina in Everglades National Park. Canoeing is popular in the Everglades, but some trails require more skill than others-notably Hell’s Bay and the Wilderness Waterway.

You can rent a canoe by the hour at the Flamingo Marina, although Everglades Canoe Outfitters, just outside the national park entrance, offers the most complete service.
