With sun, sea and nightlife there are plenty of opportunities in Miami for recreation and fun, but in December, from Art Basel to the New Year, the opportunities to celebrate multiply indefinitely. The important contemporary art fair, which begins on December 1 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, sees the involvement of 260 international galleries and over 2,000 artists.
But a real attraction are the open sections, the thousands of special events and secondary fairs: from the public display of private collections to Design Miami, to the works of public art at Collins Park to the video art which invades the city with projections at SoundScape Park, on the great wall of the New World Center designed by Frank Gehry

Active sportswear.
American manufacturers lead the field when it comes to aerobic clothing and track suits, the uniform of the 80s. The fanciful golf and tennis gear is guaranteed to change your image, if not your game. In South Beach – in Collins Avenue – you can find a small Nike Town at walking distance from the White Law Hotel.
Children’s clothing.
Dress your child American-style in miniature track suits, sturdy overalls and denims. Most of the stores for these articles you can find in the Bayside Market Place in Downtown Miami non too far from the Epic Hotel.
Cigars.
Hand-rolled Havanas made in Miami are the authentic Cuban article. In some case, if you look around the Little Havana district – only during the day please – it’s not too much difficult to find original Cuban hand-rolled Havanas.
Citrus fruit.
Send yourself a crate of Florida oranges or grapefruit. Miami fruit shippers (including several concerns at the airport) air-freight fruit all over the U. S. and around the world.

Miami is the sophisticated crossroads of the Caribbean, the place where all Latin America comes to shop. If you’re in the market for competitively priced electronic goods, gold jewellery and clothing, follow the crowds downtown to Flagler Street or over to the Miami Free Zone (NW. 107th Street). Please be carefully about electric voltage – if you are not US resident – and check with attention the model you are to buy.
In this area of Miami we suggest these two Hotels: Four Season and Epic, both offers: Every 3rd Night Free.
Sometime notebook and computer are very dated or the warranty is limited only in USA or the model is not available in Your country, so will be a nightmare to have assistance.
For ethnic items, explore the emporia of Calle Ocho in Little Havana, as well as the small shops in Coconut Grove, where merchants stock all kinds of pottery, handicraft and imports.
And don’t overlook Cauley Square, south of town on US 1.
Collectibles and arts and crafts are the speciality in this village of wood-frame shops dating from the Flagler era. Some of the best window shopping in town is along Decorator’s Row (40th Street between N.E. 2nd Avenue and Miami Avenue).

Downtown
Between Biscayne Boulevard and Miami Avenue, tacky treasure troves sell unbelievably cheap electronic goods and jewellery. For more upscale shopping, take the Metromover to the 16-acre waterfront Bayside Marketplace (more mall than market). Beware that some electronic offers are out of production or old models. Take care also regarding the voltage equipment. Try to choose the ones who offer 110v and 220v if you live outside US.
Wynwood and the Design District
Two art and designer furniture neighborhoods just north of downtown Miami, have become the equivalent to New York’s Chelsea in terms of arty design and retail.
Coconut Grove
Visit Ritchie Swimwear, 3401 Main Highway. Not cheap, but you will look fabulous.
Coral Gables
Books & Books, 296 Aragon Avenue. The best bookstore south of the Mason-Dixon line.
