Greater Miami loves a show. Broadway hits come to Coconut Grove Playhouse, while the big Broadway musicals open at the Miami Beach Theater of the Performing Arts. Less commercial off- Broadway fare is the province of the South of Broadway group, based downtown at the Knight Center.
The South Florida Theater Company brings Shakespeare to the gardens of Vizcaya for two months of open-air performances every winter. Teatro Avante, Teatro Bellas Artes and other Hispanic theatre groups stage both popular and experimental plays.
You’ll have a fascinating evening ahead of you, if your Spanish is up to it.

Art Deco Weekend
Mid-January sees an exhibition dedicated entirely to this architectural style, with visits to the historical buildings that line South Beach’s Ocean Drive.
Coconut Grove Art Festival
Held in the middle of February, this festival attracts artists from all over the country who come to exhibit their work, as well as offering music and food displays. If you have a car without GPS and you start from South Beach, we suggest to take a cab. It’s not really easy to find it.

South Beach Food and Wine Festival
Wine tasting and cooking demonstrations take place on the beachfront, at the end of February.

I am not sure yet if I’ll go in March but I went twice in a row, last year and the year before. Both times were amazing because of the the stellar DJs I went to see spin and my company of good friends. We stayed at a Hotel right on Ocean Drive the first time and at the Gansevoort Hotel in Collins the second time.
The highlights for me are the DJs who converge in Miami for this event. Dancing to their sets is what we go for since we are electronic dance music enthusiasts. To my knowledge, there is not one event where they come out in full force.
For events, it depends on what you’re looking for. There are tons of parties/events and you can party nonstop until you drop or you can just pick and choose which ones are worth your time and money. Your enjoyment really depends on activities you like. The beach is very accessible. There are pool parties during the day and many types of music genres are represented at parties after dark.
If you like to dance to house music like I do, you already know by now where your favorite DJs will be playing since most of them have already listed their events on their MySpace pages.
